MS Dhoni Confirms Return to CSK for IPL 2026, Says Franchise CEO; Sanju Samson Trade Talks Back in Play

Chennai Super Kings’ most expensive IPL buys over the years — from MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja to Ben Stokes, Deepak Chahar, and Noor Ahmad.

Putting an end to weeks of speculation, the Chennai Super Kings have officially confirmed that MS Dhoni will continue with the franchise for the IPL 2026 season. CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan told Cricbuzz that Dhoni has assured the management of his availability, saying a definitive “That’s right” when asked about the veteran’s return.

Viswanathan, who has been part of the CSK setup since its inception in 2008, reaffirmed Dhoni’s commitment: “MS has told us he will be available for the next season,” he said, clearing the air around Dhoni’s future in the league.

Dhoni, 44, remains one of the IPL’s most iconic figures. With five titles under his leadership (2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023), he stands as CSK’s longest-serving player. If he takes the field in 2026, it will mark his 17th season with the franchise and 19th overall in the IPL. Over 248 matches for CSK, Dhoni has amassed 4,865 runs and led the side with unmatched consistency.

Despite CSK’s recent struggles — finishing last in the previous season — Dhoni stepped in as captain in the absence of Ruturaj Gaikwad. His decision to return suggests a desire to script a strong finish with the team he has helmed since the league’s first edition.

Sanju Samson Trade Talks Heat Up Ahead of Retention Deadline

In parallel, reports indicate that trade discussions between CSK and Rajasthan Royals for Sanju Samson have been revived. With the November 15 player retention deadline approaching, both sides are evaluating potential moves.

Dhoni, who is an integral part of decision-making for CSK, is set to meet CEO Viswanathan, skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, and head coach Stephen Fleming on November 10 and 11 to conclude decisions on retention and trade.

Sources intimate that a big-name CSK player might go in the trade package. RR owner Manoj Badale, now in Mumbai, is said to be pursuing various trade scenarios with other franchises, including Lucknow Super Giants, Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Capitals, and CSK.

The coming days are supposed to bring more clarity with the very fact that Dhoni’s availability for IPL 2026 has generated excitement for all of CSK and the lovers of cricket across the nation.
