IPL 2026: KKR’s Mustafizur Rahman Signing Triggers Nationwide Controversy, Shah Rukh Khan Targeted

IPL 2026 controversy erupts over KKR’s signing of Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman amid protests and boycott demands.

The IPL 2026 auction controversy is growing bigger day by day, as the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are under fire for signing the Bangladeshi fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman at the rate of Rs 9.20 crore. The decision of the Shah Rukh Khan co-owned franchise has ignited passion among people from political, religious, and social groups equally.

Public outrage is based on attacks reportedly taking place against Hindus in Bangladesh, leading some people to ask whether the inclusion of players from there is morally acceptable at such a time. Critics galore in social media, and the franchise’s huge number of users have accused it of neglecting the public’s sentiments during its strive for sporting success. The hashtags #BoycottKKR and #BoycottIPL are the most popular ones throughout the whole country.

BJP’s Sangeet Som spoke out very clearly and insisted that there must be a prohibition of Bangladeshi cricketers in the IPL similar to the prohibition of Pakistani cricketers which has been in place for many years. Certain religious leaders from Ujjain city, Madhya Pradesh, even warned they would protest if Mustafizur gets the green light to play in the tournament.

There is still no official statement from KKR management and IPL authorities on this issue. Nevertheless, insiders in BCCI made it known that no such government order exists at the moment prohibiting the participation of Bangladeshi players in the IPL as there was no such ban. Officials stated that Bangladesh is not classified as an enemy nation and that visa regulations remain unchanged. The board is reportedly in discussion with the central government given the sensitivity of the issue.

Adding another layer of uncertainty, the availability of Mustafizur Rahman is still not clear as he has international matches scheduled from April 16 to 23. It is already known through the eyes of cricket specialists that KKR’s bowlers’ quality is quite strong and players like Mitchell Starc, so Might Mustafizur not be there in the playing XI?

Absence of the whole season without a legitimate reason or injury can lead a player to get banned for 2 years as per IPL rules. KKR, dealing with the negative reactions from the public and the difficulties it created in planning, is in a very difficult situation.

The whole matter has somewhat marred the IPL season, and it is no longer up to KKR, but the Indian government’s direction that will determine Mustafizur Rahman’s fate in the days to come.
