IND vs NZ: Sanju Samson Loses Wicket-Keeping Spot, Suryakumar Clarifies

Ishan Kishan takes the gloves in India’s T20I series against New Zealand, replacing Sanju Samson in final matches.

The cricketing community has engaged in discussions about which player will be the wicketkeeper for India during the upcoming T20 World Cup match while they also evaluate Sanju Samson’s chances of joining the final roster. Samson’s main problem exists because he cannot maintain steady performance throughout his entire games. Samson faced major difficulties during the five-match T20 series which India played against New Zealand.

His performance during the entire series resulted in 46 runs which makes it highly unlikely for him to secure a position in the final team selection. Ishan Kishan now takes on the wicket-keeper position for India while Tilak Varma keeps playing at his regular third position. Ishan returned to the Indian national team after two years of absence and made a positive impression through his steady performance in matches.

Ishan reached 100 runs during the fifth T20 match which took place in Thiruvananthapuram and he had previously delivered strong performances in the series. Many former cricketers support the idea of giving him the opportunity to play as an opening batsman. Ishan performed wicket-keeping duties during the final T20 match which confused fans because Samson played in the match.

The outcome created doubts about Sanju Samson’s chances to participate in the World Cup tournament. Suryakumar Yadav who leads Team India spoke about the situation. The wicket-keeping rotation system which the management established during the match, he explained, had been created before the match began.

The absence of Tilak Varma allowed us to select two wicketkeeper batsmen for our starting lineup. The management had decided beforehand that Samson would keep wickets in the first three matches and Kishan in the last two matches of the series. Kishan would have kept wickets during the fourth T20 match but he was unable to play because of a slight injury. Suryakumar reported that he returned to his wicket-keeping duties after his recovery from injury.

The team management had selected their wicket-keeping system as an established plan which did not rely on Samson’s value to the team.
