WPL 2026: Delhi Capitals Captain Jemimah Rodrigues Fined ₹12 Lakh After Narrow Loss

Jemimah Rodrigues faces a ₹12 lakh fine as Delhi Capitals suffer a close defeat against Gujarat Giants in WPL 2026.

The WPL 2026 season presents challenges for Jemimah Rodrigues who serves as Delhi Capitals’ women’s team captain. The current league season has resulted in multiple defeats for Delhi because the team has failed to win their matches under her leadership. The team lost its match against Gujarat Giants which ended on Tuesday when they lost by three runs. The team has lost four out of seven matches which they played during the current season.

Match recap

The Vadodara match finished because the teams continued to play until the final over. The Gujarat Giants team achieved 174 runs while losing 9 wickets during their 20 overs of play. The Delhi Capitals reached 171 runs while losing 8 wickets which resulted in a minor defeat that jeopardized their chances to reach the playoffs. Jemimah scored only 16 runs for herself while Nikki Prasad scored the highest for Delhi with 47 runs from 24 balls.

Fine for slow over-rate

WPL authorities confirmed that Jemimah Rodrigues received a ₹12 lakh fine because she failed to keep the required over-rate during the match. The official statement explains that “This is her first offence of the season and WPL conduct regulations require the fine of ₹12 lakh to be imposed according to the official statement. The Delhi team decided to bowl first after winning the toss which made it difficult for them to keep their necessary over-rate.

The team currently faces their ongoing struggles

The Delhi Capitals have failed to achieve successful results under Jemimah’s leadership which creates doubts about their playoff chances. The team needs immediate changes because they have only a few remaining league matches which will determine their championship chances.
