Groundbreaking for Warangal Mamunur Airport Likely in January 2026; Land Handover Completed

Land handover completed for Warangal Mamunur Airport as groundwork begins for the long-awaited aviation project.

The Warangal Mamunur Airport project has finally taken a major step forward which is a great support to Telangana’s aviation infrastructure. The progress in the project is a positive sign for the residents of Orugallu as the New Year is round the corner and the construction is now ready to be started.

223 Acres Handed Over to AAI

Union Minister G Kishan Reddy recently confirmed that all necessary clearances for the Mamunur Airport have been secured. Construction was contingent on land acquisition and handover, a milestone that was achieved on Saturday when the state government transferred 223 acres of private land to a team led by Airports Authority of India (AAI) Hyderabad General Manager BV Rao.

Land Acquisition Completed

The latest parcel was acquired swiftly through arbitration, ensuring timely compensation to landowners. With this, total land secured for the airport now stands at approximately 950 acres—adding to the earlier 696.14 acres already acquired. Officials say the land acquisition process is now fully complete.

Foundation Stone in January 2026

The foundational stone of the Mamunur Airport is expected to be placed in January 2026 with the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. The authorities are optimistic about the inauguration of passenger flights by the end of 2027.

According to the initial plan, the airport will only be operational for small aircraft and the opening of the routes will be done gradually according to the passenger flow. The airport operator will try to build the project similar to the Ayodhya Airport and will also take guidance from the operational model of Cochin International Airport.

A Key Step After Decades

The long-awaited Mamunur Airport project has taken a giant leap forward as the final land acquisition process has been completed and the land handed over to AAI after almost four decades of waiting. Since all the preliminaries have been removed, the construction is going to proceed rapidly, thus, making Warangal nearer to the improved regional connection and economic development.
