The earthquake of 3.7 magnitude hit the ASR district during the early hours on Tuesday, causing a mild tremor in the Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, and Srikakulam regions. Luckily, there were no reports of any losses and damages.
🌍 Tremors Being Felt Early Morning at 4:19 AM
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the earthquake took place near G. Madugula in the ASR district at around 4:19 AM local time at a depth of 10 kilometers.
“This is a minor earthquake of low intensity,” said S. Stella, Director of IMD Amaravati. “It was not of sufficient strength to cause damage to the structures.”
No Major Damage or Casualties
The officials stated that the tremors were mild enough not to cause any visible damage. IMD experts explained that cracks in walls or any structural impact are generally observed only in case of an earthquake measuring magnitude 5.0 or above, depending upon soil conditions and distance from the epicenter.
From the Department of Earth Sciences at Andhra University, it was further noted that the effect of the shocks depends on factors like shallow-depth, terrain characteristics, and construction quality.
🏠 Residents Recall Brief Morning Shocks
Residents in several parts of Visakhapatnam, including PM Palem, Madhurawada, Rushikonda, Gajuwaka, Simhachalam, and Beach Road, reported feeling the quick jolts lasting for a few seconds.

Some people reported hearing thunder-like sounds during the tremors, adding to their momentary confusion and panic.
⚠️ IMD Issues Advisory
The IMD said that it was an account of a minor seismic event and requested the people not to panic; however, the authorities were to exercise vigilance looking for the possible aftershocks and ensure that the safety protocol is adhered to accordingly.
