The upcoming action-adventure film Varanasi will show all of Director S.S. Rajamouli’s complete filmmaking work at its worldwide theatrical launch on April 7 2027.

The film brings together Rajamouli and Oscar-winning composer M.M. Keeravani who previously won the Academy Award for Best Original Song with Naatu Naatu from RRR. Varanasi shows Mahesh Babu in the main role of Rudhra who acts with international actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas as Mandakini and Prithviraj Sukumaran who plays the main villain Kumbha.

The adventure depicts an epic story which shows Indiana Jones and James Bond connections as it follows characters through thousands of years across various continents with parts of the story taking place in Antarctica and Africa and the Indian city of Varanasi. Rajamouli revealed the first-look footage of the project in November 2025 which created strong expectations among viewers.

The groundbreaking worldwide success of RRR which became the fifth most successful film in Indian cinema and received international recognition from critics created high expectations for Varanasi.

Mahesh Babu remains one of Telugu cinema’s most bankable stars who achieved success with his films Srimanthudu and Bharat Ane Nenu and Maharshi. Priyanka Chopra Jonas has built a successful career that links Bollywood with Hollywood through her performances in Bajirao Mastani, Mary Kom, Barfi!, Baywatch, The Matrix Resurrections, and the series Citadel. Prithviraj Sukumaran is a pan-Indian actor who appears in movies from multiple languages including Malayalam and Tamil and Telugu and Hindi with his work in Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, and The Goat Life.

The film Varanasi is produced by the production companies Sri Durga Arts and Showing Business through their collaboration with producers. The film will become one of the biggest Indian cinematic exports for 2027 because it combines Rajamouli’s signature large-scale filmmaking with an international adventure storyline.
