Pakistan’s participation in the T20 World Cup remains clouded in uncertainty as reports suggest the squad may depart for Sri Lanka on February 2. The Air Lanka flight is reportedly expected to carry both Pakistan and Australia teams.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) issued a press release which confirmed the team’s travel schedule but later issued a revised version which erased the section about the team’s departure.
Pakistani journalists have shown the changed information through social media, which has led to speculation about the team’s official position.
Confusion about tournament operations has increased because formal confirmation is absent according to RevSportz. The PCB, led by chairman Mohsin Naqvi, has faced criticism for mixing political considerations with cricketing decisions, drawing limited support from ICC officials.
Reports indicate Pakistan’s position may also be influenced by broader regional considerations, particularly in relation to Bangladesh, which creates questions about whether the selected matches will be played. Pakistan cricket will face multiple negative outcomes because any extreme positions will result in financial penalties and diplomatic damage and loss of public trust.
India proceeds with its standard training activities which include selecting players and developing game plans for upcoming matches.
