The Republic Day holiday in India featured many festive events which displayed national pride through ceremonial activities and traditional costumes that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen wore.
The Prime Minister wore a colorful turban which displayed Rajasthani heritage through its red yellow green and blue colors that were woven into its golden lace design. The ceremonial headgear brought out the joyful atmosphere of the event. The main red color represented both bravery and enthusiasm and intense dedication. The turban matched his dark blue and white kurta-pyjama outfit which he wore with a light blue jacket to achieve a stylish traditional look.
Ursula von der Leyen attended the celebration as the chief guest and wore a dress that showcased Indian design elements. She broke her common clothing pattern by selecting a maroon dress which featured golden decorations that represented Indian culture and matched the Republic Day celebration.
Ursula von der Leyen became the first female President of the European Commission. She first took office in 2019 and she won re-election for her second term which will last until 2029. She served as a German government minister for 14 years before she began her term as President of the European Commission.
Von der Leyen participated in the India–EU summit during her visit to India. The two countries continue to negotiate a free trade agreement which they hope to complete during her trip so that they can enhance their diplomatic relationship.
