Hyderabad-Bound British Airways Flight Receives Bomb Threat, Declared Hoax

Security personnel inspect a British Airways aircraft at Hyderabad airport after a bomb threat email was received.

Tuesday dawned at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) with a situation that could be termed as a bomb scare. The management had decided to take additional security measures due to a report regarding a bomb on a British Airways flight to Hyderabad. However, the personnel at the airport confirmed that the whole thing was simply a trick played on them.

The customer care department of RGIA received an email alert stating that there was a bomb on British Airways flight BA 277 from London Heathrow to Hyderabad. This was confirmed by an official communication. The security agencies were in position to carry out their usual action as soon as the aircraft landed without any hitches.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) members along with the airline personnel performed a complete search of the plane. After a long and detailed security check, nothing suspicious was discovered, and hence the threat was ruled out. Eventually, the flight went ahead with its operations as planned.

In recent days, RGIA has faced the second such incident. On Monday, airport authorities were alerted by a similar bomb threat email concerning a flight of KLM Airlines linking Amsterdam to Hyderabad. Just like the previous one, this alert was also declared a hoax after security checks were done.

Officials from the airport and police have stated that in both scenarios, all safety protocols were implemented thus ensuring the safety of the passengers. Moreover, the officials mentioned that the investigations to find out the source of the hoax emails are still in progress.
