The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) are closed today, Wednesday, November 5, 2025, in observance of Guru Nanak Jayanti, marking the 556th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism.
Trading is suspended across all segments — equity, derivatives, securities lending and borrowing (SLB), and currency derivatives — for the day. Normal trading operations will resume tomorrow, Thursday, November 6, as per the exchanges’ regular Monday-to-Friday schedule.
📅 Official Trading Calendar Update
According to the BSE and NSE holiday list, the closure is listed under “Prakash Gurpurb Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.” Both exchanges will remain operational for the rest of the week after today’s holiday, with routine weekend breaks continuing on Saturdays and Sundays.
🙏 Why the Markets Are Closed Today
Guru Nanak Jayanti, also known as Gurpurab or Prakash Utsav, celebrates the birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji — born in 1469 in Rai Bhoi Ki Talwandi, now Nankana Sahib, Pakistan. The festival is marked by devotional prayers, kirtans, langars (community meals), and processions across India and worldwide.
On this auspicious day, devotees remember Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s teachings of equality, compassion, and humility, which continue to inspire millions.
🎄 Next Market Holiday
According to the 2025 stock market holiday calendar, the next and final trading holiday of the year will be observed on December 25 (Christmas). Markets will otherwise function as usual until the year-end.
