Indian Woman Himanshi Khurana Killed in Canada; Police Probe Suspected Intimate Partner Violence

Toronto Police investigate the murder of Indian national Himanshi Khurana; suspect Abdul Ghafoori is currently absconding.

A 30-year-old Indian woman, Himanshi Khurana, was brutally killed in Toronto, Canada, last week, the police claiming the incident to be domestic violence. The law enforcement agency of Canada has already announced that a search for the 32-year-old Toronto man, Abdul Ghafoori, who is connected to the murder, is on.

The Toronto Police Service in a statement noted that the police officers got a missing person report late at night on December 19 about the Strachan Avenue and Wellington Street West area. The search lasted till the next day morning around 6.30 am, when the police found the woman dead inside a house.

Later on, the dead body was identified as Himanshi Khurana, who had been living in Toronto. The police made the declaration of a murder case and the Homicide Unit was given the investigation.

It is presumed by the police that the victim and the accused knew each other. The detectives at the location have characterized the homicide as one of intimate partner violence according to the Canadian press report. Toronto cops claim that the dead person and the killer had a romantic relationship.

“The image of the suspect has been released; at the same time, we are requesting the public to give any hint that could lead to his whereabouts,” the police spokesperson said, emphasizing the critical nature of the situation and encouraging anyone with related information to contact the police immediately.

On the other hand, the cops are on the trail of a man who is 32 years old and goes by the name of Abdul Ghafoori, who has been accused of committing first-degree murder. His photograph has been circulated as part of the investigation.

Images released by the police matched those shared earlier on social media by a profile bearing Himanshi Khurana’s name. Her online profile stated that she was a digital creator based in Toronto.

The occurrence stunned everyone and the grief spread to the Indian community not just in Canada but also in India. The Indian consulate in Toronto, upon discovering the murder, expressed their profound sorrow and sympathy to the victim’s family.

The Consulate wrote on X, “We are so very sad and surprised by the killing of Ms Himanshi Khurana, a young Indian national, in Toronto. To her mourned family, we offer our most profound condolences during this very hard time.”

The Consulate went on to say that it has been in regular communication with the authorities and is offering the family every possible support as a partner in the investigation.
