No Need for Panic Booking, LPG Delivery Cycle Remains Normal: Oil Ministry

LPG Crisis Updates: Efforts Underway to Control Supply Disruptions, Says Union Minister Suresh Gopi

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas assured citizens that there is no need for panic booking of LPG cylinders because the countrywide delivery process continues to operate at its standard two-and-a-half-day delivery schedule which delivers natural gas within that time frame.

Sujata Sharma who serves as Joint Secretary for the ministry explained to reporters that India maintains its secure crude oil supply despite oil market disruptions caused by Iranian and Israeli and United States tensions.

LPG Production Increased by 25%

Sharma explained that the government has implemented multiple initiatives which successfully maintain ongoing fuel distribution operations to domestic customers resulting in a 25% boost to domestic LPG output.

She urged consumers not to rush to book cylinders unnecessarily.

“Feedback indicates that people are booking panic entries and hoarding supplies because of incorrect information. I want to clarify that the normal delivery cycle for domestic LPG remains around two-and-a-half days. There is no need for customers to rush and book cylinders,” she said.

The Centre has instructed State governments to establish proactive strategies which will prevent both hoarding operations and illegal fuel distribution activities including LPG and other fuel products.

Crude Oil Supply Secure

The ministry reports that India maintains stable crude oil supplies despite interruptions which impact important maritime transportation routes. The country requires 55 lakh barrels of crude oil daily and it depends on various procurement methods to ensure sufficient supply, which it maintains at appropriate levels.

Officials said India has significantly reduced its dependence on shipments passing through the Strait of Hormuz which serves as a vital global oil transit route that the current conflict has impacted.

Currently 70% of India’s crude imports enter the country via alternative routes which represents an increase from the 55% which existed at that time.

LNG Cargoes Expected Soon

Sharma also said that two liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes are already on their way to India and are expected to arrive within the next few days, further strengthening the country’s energy supply.

India sources crude oil from nearly 40 countries, a strategy that officials say has helped shield the country from major supply disruptions during geopolitical crises.

The government reiterated that domestic LPG supplies remain adequate and urged citizens to avoid panic buying.
