BCCI Issues Update on Shreyas Iyer’s Injury After Sydney ODI Against Australia

BCCI Issues Update on Shreyas Iyer’s Spleen Injury After Sydney ODI vs Australia

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has released an official announcement about Shreyas Iyer’s injury, which was incurred during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney on October 25, 2025. The Indian batsman was forced to exit the playground halfway after catching the ball in India’s nine-wicket win in the series’ last match.

🏥 BCCI Confirms Spleen Laceration

According to the BCCI’s medical report, Iyer suffered an impact injury to his left lower rib cage while fielding and was immediately taken to a Sydney hospital for evaluation.

“Scans have revealed a laceration injury to the spleen. He is under treatment, medically stable, and recovering well. The BCCI Medical Team, in consultation with specialists in Sydney and India, is closely monitoring his condition,”
the statement read.

The board also confirmed that the Indian team doctor will remain in Sydney to oversee Iyer’s daily recovery process.

How the Injury Occurred

The incident took place when Iyer executed a stunning running catch to dismiss Alex Carey off Harshit Rana’s bowling. Sprinting back from backward point, Iyer landed awkwardly on his left side, immediately clutching his ribs in visible pain.
Team medical staff attended to him on the field before he was stretchered off for scans.

🏏 Iyer’s Recent Form

Before the injury, Shreyas Iyer had scored 11 and 61 runs in the first two ODIs, both of which India lost. In the third match, India made a strong comeback, clinching a nine-wicket win powered by an unbeaten partnership between Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, sealing the series 2–1.

🇮🇳 What’s Next for Iyer and Team India

Iyer has been ruled out of the upcoming five-match T20I series against Australia, starting October 29, 2025.
If recovery progresses well, he could return for India’s three-match ODI series against South Africa, beginning November 30, 2025.
